You Scream, I scream, We All scream for Ice Cream!
No this is not a very untimely review of the Masters of Horror episode directed by Tom Holland, as I'm 11 years too late for that, this is a call to celebrate the lighter side of life this summer with a little injection of the soft, pastel hues that have been creeping up on their dark counterparts heels for the last 8 months.
For me the most noticeable change was in the paint isle of my local B&Q one dreary May morning. Looking for nothing in particular I happily stumbled into the Valspar inspired by Pantone pastel colour chart. Now this colour range is a beauty. Subtle, grown-up pastels the shade of a good quality gelato, not the fluro pinks or blues which scream of E numbers and taste of nothing here. Every colour is muted in tone without skimping on its vibrance, making any colour in the range easy to work into any room of your choosing.
Following on from the muted Valspar pastel palette, Dulux's range delivers a capsule collection of pastels which I feel pack more of a sugary punch than their Valspar cousin, so if you have the gumption why not go full on with one of their shades? You could keep it oh so sweet with a uniform pink colour throughout the room, take things to a more safe, serene space with their creamy whites and easy pastel greens, or really go for it and get your sugar rush in the form of clashing pastels and brights on adjuring walls.
I like this switch to light and although my home is going to be on the darker side of the colour wheel, I have injected some light into my life in the form of a Roger Oates Bright Rose stair runner. This runner is going to be the main feature of my hallway, eye catching upon entry and will push the direction of the rest of my home in a way that I would never have been comfortable with going. Who knows, the bright pink and clashing purple that the two oldest children are intent on painting their bedroom seems pretty on trend and appealing to me now, maybe I'll go full on with my pots of paint in there...
With the arrivals of summer at last this week, do you feel more open to the prospect of pastels in your home? How would you add your shot of sugar? Or do you just not have a sweet tooth and no amount of pretty paint and pintrest pictures are going to sway you otherwise? Let me know in the comments
