Welcome to Friday Fever, your weekly guide to whats hot right now and the future pieces that are sure to make waves in the interior world.
Now, wallpaper is never really a trend is it? I think of it as on old friend who you see a few times a year but is always at the back of your mind. You don't really miss this friend, although you are very fond of their company. You keep in contact sporadically during the year, a happy Chirstmas text here, a birthday phone call there, and when the bi-yearly meet up happens you sit down with your favourite tipple and instantly pick up exactly where you left off during the last conversation, side split with laughter at inside jokes with a familiarity that is fun and simultaneously comfortable.
The convoluted explanation above is my way of saying that wallpaper has never really gone out of of our lives or out of style. Sure its had plenty of 5 minutes of fame moments; Flock in the 1970's, floral motif wall boarders of the 1980's AND 1990's - man we did not want to let that trend go, and now plam print. Wallpaper, its everywhere and nowhere all at the same time. Either catching our eye as a bold geometric or flower print on a trend setters celing (another 2017 / 18 trend) or almost at risk of us missing it completely with papers that only reveal their fabulous patterns when caught by the light.
I have been in a bit of a conundrum about wallpaper over the past two weeks. I am an avid fan of the stuff, a maximalist some might say, there will be no soft prints or subtle patterns in this house thats for sure. I absolutely LOVE it, all kinds of it, well except for the absolute hellish textured wallpaper that adorns every wall and ceiling in my house. Oh the fun (read hell) I have removing it. I would like to use more of it within the house but unusually for me I'm struggling to get a clear picture in my head of how to make it all work without walking room to room and giving myself a migraine from all the pattern clash.
The playroom was the first space to get the bold wallpaper treatment last week with this fun Honolulu Palm print from Graham & Brown. I've covered all the walls with it but managed to restrain myself from adorning the ceiling.I will be doing a reveal post soon over on instagram, so if you don't already you can follow me here.
I had been lusting over the iconic House of Hackney Palmeral print in off white for ages, and was actually thinking of putting it in our bedroom but just like everything interior and fabulous, all the cool people got there before me and I had to abandon the idea. Also i'm not silly enough to put House of Hackney in a childs playroom, we do not have that kind of money to burn...it's so versatile and gorgeous though, maybe it will make an appearance in the bathroom? Perhaps along the lines of something like this.
I've also purchased this wonderful wallpaper from Sian Elin Ltd for the babies room.
I need to stop calling her the baby as she is now firmly a toddler but nothing else seems to fit. Little One? Child number 3? The Kid? I actually quite like "This Kid" the husband and I say this to each other when she's done something developmentally big "look at this kid" we both cry in joy and point at her like loons, we are very cool people you see, so yes, for the time being This Kid it will be. I won't be showcasing This Kids' bedroom until its fully completed as i'm hoping to have something a little special to show you alongside the reveal so stay tuned.
Anyway back to wallpaper, kids wallpaper is diabolical isn't it. Where is the choice? its 85% pastels, cartoon characters, animals or modes of transport, all very boring and predictable, all very meh. Please let me know in the comments if you have found any brands that do contemporary, cool and interesting wallpaper suitable for a preteen room that houses two girls, as if I see one more princess, flower or bloody unicorn print (WHAT IS WITH THE UNICORNS?!) I will have to start drinking gin when I start my wallpaper hunt shop again. Actually that doesn't sound too bad...
I have clocked up a startling around of internet wallpaper search hours this week that I thought it only right that I share the best of my finds with you - hope you enjoy!
